Hey guys, toss in your captions & check back later today. So it seems like Microsoft's IPTV software isn't getting that stellar of a start. First we heard that Verizon had to go back and redo some of the code just to make it work with their FiOS TV. Now we're getting wind that "code issues" are responsible for AT&T's IPTV delay. I'm hoping they get this fixed up because I sure am sick of my Comcast subscription, and was hoping this could spur another non-satelite player in San Francisco.
And Sen. Hillary Clinton is apparently the queen of Yahoo! Answers. A couple of days ago she put up a question, and in response she got over 35,000 replies. Damn. I couldn't imagine checking on 35,000 responses to one of Gizmodo's posts.
HP just seems to be hit with one problem after another. But they definitely caught a break here. Their Pretexting (Getting personal info under false pretenses) Lawsuit was dismissed. Some thought that this would drum up worries again after last years esp...

There's no better way to wash away the depressive filth of winter's scorn than beneath the glow of a swank new laptop right? So let's put digits to palm and golf clap at the introduction of the latest Qosmio and Satellite laptops from Toshiba. The Qosmio F30W (F30/87AW) laptop is their AV focused model sporting a terrestrial digital TV tuner and bright 490 cd/m2, 15.4-inch 1280 x 800 pixel LCD. For ¥247,800 (about $2,047) you'll be one the... uh, privileged to hoist your own 4-kg (8.8-pound) / 52.1-mm (2.05-inch) thick slab. The F30W packs a 2GHz T7200 Core 2 Duo proc, 2GB of PC2-4200 DDR2 memory, 128MB of nVidia GeForce Go 7300 graphics, ±R DL DVD super multi-drive, 2.7-hour lithium-ion battery, 802.11a/b/g WiFi, harmon/kardon's bass reflex speaker system, and Vista Home Premium loaded up on a 120GB 5400rpm SATA disk. It also brings plenty of expansion with 4x USB 2.0, Firewire, multi-format memory card reader and S/PDIF, D-Sub 15, S-Vi...

The Advanced Access Content System (AACS) Licensing Authority (the dudes in charge of HD DVD copy protection measures) has confirmed that the security measures of certain HD DVDs has been cracked. The hack, which is the work of a person posing as muslix64, doesn't actually apply to all HD DVDs, though. In other words, muslix64's hack only works on a few HD DVD titles and isn't as widespread as some people were hoping for. Listen closely: you can hear the movie industry breathing again (if only for a short while).
If the actual AACS copy protection hasn't truly been cracked, then Hollywood & Co. don't have too much to worry about just yet. But with an entire community now working toward truly cracking the copy protection scheme, how long will this honeymoon last? – Nicholas Deleon

It's official, AACS protection on Blu-ray Disc and HD DVD has indeed been compromised. The AACS Licensing Authority was quick to ensure the industry that their AACS encryption was still intact. Rather, the keys used to unlock commercial films had been stolen by exploiting "flaws" in "one or more" of the hi-def players. The AACS LA also confirmed that the breach affects both Blu-ray and HD DVD. So it's true, muslix64 and Co are snagging the "title keys" as they are exchanged between the player and optical media. Of course, anyone trolling the usenet and torrents already knows this full well. But isn't it nice to see the rubber stamp of disapproval from an industry on its heels?

How is this possible? How does LG's Blu-ray/HD DVD player end up being smaller than the cheapest HD DVD and Blu-ray player? Apparently by skimping on the HD features, though we don't imagine that'd add any noticible size to the device.
So if you buy a LG BH100 instead of the Toshiba HD-A1 and the Samsung BD-P1000, you save shelf space at the expense of cash ($1200 vs. $600 + $400).
More after the jump.

Amidst all of the debate whether porn won't or will be allowed on Blu-Ray, I am happy to announce that the first scheduled Blu-Ray pornographic film will be Debbie Does Dallas ... Again. This announcement just brings warmth to my heart because a lot of us grew up on the classic, Debbie Does Dallas and it is only appropriate to see the re-release of this smash hit in glorious 1080p on Blu-Ray. Vivid Entertainment announced that the flick will be simultaneously released on Blu-Ray and HD DVD on March 28 and you can expect to see me at the first one in line to buy both, to play on my dual-format LG BH100 player, of course. –Travis Hudson

Move that noisy and heat-producing workstation 850 feet away from your serene studio with the Matrox Extio F1220, a high-end remote graphics unit (RGU) aimed at broadcasters, audio engineers, mission-critical financial wonks and the well-heeled.
Presumably lower-priced than its $2300 Extio F1400 brandmate, it lets you hook up two 1920x1200 digital (DVI) or analog monitors to its quiet little fanless desktop unit, unlike the F1400 which will let you feed four DVI monitors but only at a resolution of 1600x1200.
But Extio lets you do much more than that, offering some intriguing possibilities:
With its 6 USB 2.0 ports and two 1394 FireWire ports, along with integrated audio jacks, you can plug in your speakers, camcorders and external DVD, Blu-ray or HD DVD drives and have them right there at your fingertips. Suddenly that distant, wheezing computer that sounds like a vacuum cleaner is a distant memory unless you need to take a hike to give it a cold b...
